Women’s Ministry

"Can a woman minister under the authority of a pastor?"

Shabbat

Monica’s notes

Webster’s 9th new collegiate dictionary says:

Prophet: one who utters divinely inspired revelations, the writer of one of the prophetic books of the Old Testament, one gifted with more than ordinary spiritual and moral insight, one who foretells future events

Prophetess: a woman who is a prophet

Young’s analytical concordance to the bible says:

Prophet: A seer (Hebrew) nebi

Prophetess: female preacher (Hebrew) nebiah

Preach: to proclaim good tidings

Minister: to judge, plead, strive, decide, work & serve

Teach: cause to understand, show, direct

Genesis 3:16…"Thy desire shall be to thy husband and he shall rule over thee"

Yahweh put the husband as head of the wife, as Yahshua is head of the Assembly. We see scriptures where Sha’ul has specified that very clearly.

Listing of scriptures that mentions a prophetess or prophesying:

Exodus 15:20 Miriam the prophetess, she mention Yahweh’s triumph over Egypt.

Judges 4:4 Deborah the wife of Lappidoth, she was a prophetess and a judge over Israel at that time, she told Barak "Yahweh will sell Sisera into the hand of a woman…"

2 Kings 22:14 Huldah the wife of Shallum, she prophesied against Judah because of their sinning and she prophesied good to Josiah because he did that which was right in the sight of Yahweh.

2 Chronicles 34:22 Huldah the wife of Shallum (it tells the same story that is in 2 Kings 22:14)

Nehemiah 6:14 Noadiah the prophetess. Nehemiah was restoring the walls of Jerusalem and Noadiah and the other prophets were trying to frighten him.

Isaiah 8:3 Isaiah went up to the prophetess and she conceived and bore a son, Yahweh said to name him Mahershalahashbaz.

Ezekiel 13:17 talks about daughters prophesying out of their own imagination. Yahweh was against them, just as he was against false prophets.

Joel 2:28 says, "And it shall come to pass in the last days that I will pour of my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons & daughters will prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions".

Luke 2:36 Anna a prophetess, widow of 84 years. She did not depart from the temple, she worship, fasted with supplication unto Yahweh day & night. (She is the type of woman that I want to be like.)

Acts 2:17 Peter repeats what was prophesied in Joel 2:28.

Acts 21:8,9 Philip had 4 virgin daughters who prophesied.

Revelation 2:20 Jezebel called herself a prophetess. Of course we know that she was false, Yahweh was not pleased with her at all.

1 Timothy 2:11 Sha’ul says…"Let a woman learn in quietness with all subjection. But I do not permit a woman to teach not to have dominion or authority over a man, but to be in quietness."

In 2John, John writes a pastoral letter to the elder to the elect lady and her children.

Questions:

  1. Does the law forbid a woman to minister to a congregation where men are present?
  2. What if the man gives her that authority to minister unto men & women, would that be her having dominion over men?
  3. Can a woman be a minister under the authority of a pastor?

In my study I see that Yahweh has a set order. I know that in the Old Covenant Yahweh did not have women as priest. He used women as prophetess; they were speaking a word from Yahweh as he used those that were subjected to Him. Of course you had the false prophetess as you had false prophets. Yahweh was not speaking through them. In 2John I believe that this lady was an elder in her Assembly which she also had a sister in the faith that had an Assembly, were they pastors or elders? I see in the Old Covenant where Yahweh used women as prophetess. Could it be that Yahweh has allowed women in this day to become ministers and teachers or even pastors?

Growing up in my church I was under a woman pastor. She would say "if the man doesn’t do his part then God will use whom ever He will" I must be honest with you, Yahweh can use whom ever He wills, but according to scriptures I believe that His perfect plan was to use men. Almost in the situation like divorce, Yahweh never intended divorce, but for the hardness of men’s heart He permitted it.

So I guess we must ask ourselves:

Do I want Yahweh’s perfect will? Will there be men to step up to the challenge that Yahweh has given them?

Yes! We are blessed here at this fellowship to have men that fear Yahweh, and they want to do His will to take authority in the assembly and there are many more that are out there.

I completely understand the order that Yahweh has set forth in the body of Messiah.

Yahweh, Yahshua, Man & Woman

As Sha’ul said in 1 Corinthians 11:13 "Judge in yourselves is it comely for a woman to pray to Yahweh with her head uncovered".

I ask "Is it comely for a woman to minister under the authority of a man? Not being head of a man, she is not supposed to be a bishop or deacon. In 1Timothy 3:1-13 it gives us the qualifications of bishops and deacons, "they are to be a husband of one wife". But, can she be under his authority and still minister to men? Sha’ul didn’t say under the man, but being over the man. What does Yahweh’s law say about a woman ministering under the man?

Of course we know that there are many ways that we can minister. Mary and Martha minister to Yahshua, Pricilla & Aquilla minister to Sha’ul. We don’t have to be in a pulpit to minister. We can be on our jobs; you may minister to a co-worker who is a male. Serving is a type of ministering. I like to feel that I minister to my husband on a daily basis. There really are many ways to minister.

My pray is that we can help each other to understand the scriptures more clearly so that we can also help others when they come to us. This really is a hot topic for discussion. May Yahweh bless it and give us understanding in Yahshua’s Name.
